Cameroon’s newly appointed coach, Rigobert Song has won his first deal in his Europe search as he wins the heart of Joel Matip ahead of double World Cup qualifier games.
Rigobert Song was accompanied by FECAFOOT’s boss, Samuel Eto’o to Germany where they had discussions with Joel Matip’s parents.
The duo would later embark on another journey to England where the Cameroon international plays.
The 30 year-old Liverpool center-back was touched by his parents and the Cameroonian delegation, who requested for his return home.
Joel Matip stopped representing Cameroon on his 27th CAP in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
His return serves as a danger to the desert foxes of Algeria, who will in the days ahead combat Cameroon to secure a ticket in the Qatar World cup.
The 2020 UEFA Championship holder will be a boost in the defensive line of Cameroon which already has Micheal Ngadeu, Charles Jean-Castelletto, Jean Claude Bilong, and Harold Moukoudi.
According to multiple reports, the technical bench of Cameroon and FECAFOOT’s President are in Europe searching nationals who have been naturalised to return and invest their football vigour and talent for fatherland.
Many say this move would strengthen the camaraderie amongst the Indomitable Lions and propel them to make it for Qatar’s playground.
It however remains unclear if Matip will be available for the back to back games against Algeria or would need more time to get him self set for the task that awaits him in the national team.
