Instead of bashing the indomitable lions of Cameroon for not making it to the final of the ongoing AFCON 2021, know that Head Coach, Antonio Conceicao wants them to be applauded.
The defeat the lions suffered from the pharoads of Egypt is not because of bad play, the coach believes that it is a game that one must always triumph.
The Portuguese was reacting for the first time after losing to Egypt 3 goals to 1 during a penalty shootout on Thursday, January 3.
The Coach who has been with the National team for two and a half years expressed disappointment in not making it to the finals but frowns at Cameroonians for treating their “the boys” badly after missing the penalties.
He further said the lions should be applauded for their courage and combatting spirit.
“I’ve been here for two and a half years and I can guarantee you that in the course of our training sessions, we practice penalty shootout…The boys were courageous to take penalties but didn’t score and people are mad at them” the coach regretted it.
“I understand the sadness and frustration, but your sadness is not greater than mine. I have a lot of respect for the people of Cameroon, but the boys didn’t deserve such a treatment.” He said
Cameroon will lock horns with Burkina Faso at 8 pm on February 5 for the 3rd place medal.
