Cameroon’s national team coach has named an 18-year-old striker as part of his final squad to face Algeria in a double world cup qualifiers.
Rigobert Song made public a list of 25 foot soldiers recently with some new faces appearing in his squad.
Among the newly called up is 18-year-old Coton Sport of Garoua attacker, Wassu Patient.
Wassu gained the spotlights last year after scoring 5 goals in five games during the 2021 Easter Patricia Berthelot Cup hosted by Les Brasseries du Cameroun Football School in Douala, Cameroon’s litoral region.
His call-up came as a surprise to many Cameroonians given that, the teenager was not part of a preliminary 38-man list published ahead of two last round world cup qualifiers against the Dessert Foxes of Algeria, March 25 and March 29 2022.
Among some key names dropped from the previous list are Fabrice Ondoua, Clinton Njie, and Christian Bassagog.
Coach Song Bahanag’s litmus test is to see if he will guide Cameroon to qualify for the 2022 world cup in Qatar.
This explains his choice of fresh attackers in whom he expects a style of play build on purpose and precession when the Indomitable Lions confront the North African Foxes twice at the end of the month.
