Senegalese striker, Sadio Mane has described the just ended 2021 AFCON in Cameroon as one of the most successful in the history of the competition.
Mane who emerged best player of the tournament took to his Facebook handle to thank the country of Samuel Eto’o Fils for hosting a historic CAN.
“I want to say THANK YOU to all the Cameroonian people! It was an amazing CAN with a great atmosphere. You all were a perfect host of this tournament,” he said.
Senegal which played a second AFCON final in a role clinched the coveted trophy in Cameroon thanks to the effort of Sadio Mane and his fellow countrymen who were poised to see the name of their country inscribed in the anal of AFCON history for the first time.
Senegal made this happen following a brilliant 5-4 post penalty win over the Pharaohs of Egypt as the encounter remained barren after 120 minutes of action at the magnificent Paul Biya stadium in Yaounde.
As Mane played in the Paul Biya stadium for the first time, the tragic stampede incident which claimed 8 lives, rendering 40 others injured was very fresh on his mind; a situation which the Liverpool star revisits a week after the AFCON finale.
“I don’t want to forget my condolences to the families of all victims who lost their lives during the tragic stadium incident. We will never forget you.”
It should be noted AFCON 2021 hosted by Cameroon has gone into history as Africa’s most streamed, trending tournament.
