As the rift as to who will lead Cameroon’s football national team to the last round qualifier for the 2022 World Cup and AFCON 2023 crescendos, it is most likely that Samuel Eto’o Fils wants to give the assignment to a national.
The FECAFOOT boss, Samuel Eto’o, Friday, February 18 requested more time to brainstorm before deciding who will lead the team in the forthcoming competitions.
After rumours made rounds on social media that 45-year-old former captain, Rigobert Song Bahanag had been contacted to replace Antonio Conceicao, the two times AFCON winner has reacted on the issue.
Among the media organs which trumpeted the news of Conceicao’s replacement is Jeune Afrique.

The media house broke the news of Rigobert Song’s arrival in the national team but pulled down the article from its official website minutes after it was uploaded.
About 72 hours after the rumours that Rigobert Song is taking over the team, the former Captain sees the information as unfounded.
“The reports making rounds are not true, no, not true at all,” Song told Mauritaniafoot.com.
Rigobert Song Bahagna, however, remains one of the personalities that may fit into the shoes of Conceicao, given that he is yet to declare interest in the job if given the mandate.
The soccer legend retired from international football in 2010 before venturing into management after a 22-year-long career on the pitch.
As captain of the Indomitable Lions, the versatile and courageous defender guided his country to win two AFCON titles.
Rigobert Song would later become team manager of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon for a short fare before he was appointed coach of the intermediate Lions in 2018.
The new office saw Song leading Cameroon to CHAN that year; despite being eliminated at the group stage of the competition.

After obtaining a coaching license in France over a year ago, many say the former Liverpool and Galatasaray defender is a square peck in a square hole, especially at a time when calls for a domestic coach to head the Lions have reached apogee.
While FECAFOOT’s boss, Samuel Eto’o Fils was expected to break the news of who should lead the Lions before his 72 hours ultimatum times out, the all-time leading African number 9 would rather request for more time to unveil the package to Cameroonians.
He pleaded to be given up to Wednesday, February 23 for a final decision on the head coach post.
As TWIF NEWS had earlier reported, Cameroon’s Sports Minister had extended the contract of Portuguese-born Coach, Antonio Conceicao, handing him a mandate to lead the team in forthcoming competitions.
