29-year-old winger, Clinton Njie is among four players of the indomitable lions of Cameroon to beg for forgiveness after failing to grant the people’s aspiration to lose the AFCON semi-final to Egypt.
Like the famous prodigal son in the Bible, Clinton Njie has apologized for his poor outing against the Pharaohs, 24 hours after the post-match penalty 3-1 defeat.
The Dynamo Moscow forward joined his counterparts, Moukoudi and James Siliki to give away their penalty kicks against the AFCON 7-time winner who opted for a defensive play throughout the game.
After failing to replicate the performance of 2017 which saw the lions bagged home their fifth AFCON trophy, the Buea-born feels apologising to fans is the right step to take.
He writes: “Dear Cameroonians, I’m short of words and I’m still trying to come to terms with everything that happened yesterday.
My biggest fear became a reality when I had a vital responsibility towards my beloved motherland and I sadly dashed the hopes of more than 26 million Cameroonians, home and abroad. It wasn’t my intention and I sincerely apologize for that,
“They say disappointment is the nurse of wisdom and through this disappointment has come opportunities for me to learn how to become a better player and person. I have also taken time to read every feedback in good faith and will work tirelessly to become the best version of myself. “
“I love this country with all my heart, and will always defend it to the best of my ability.“
“Thank you for all the positive messages that I have received. They are a source of motivation. Thank you!”
