Cameroon have been mourning the death of 9 Gendarmerie forces reportedly killed by Separatist fighters.
Multiple sources have reported that a group of separatists fighters in the conflict hit Northwest Region headed by self-styled general, FM No Pity invaded a military in Noun division of neighboring French-speaking West Region Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
The Anglophone Armed conflict in Cameroon has continued to claim lives 5 years after it escalated.
This time around a bloody battle occurred in Kouoptamo, Noun division between separatists fighters and state forces.
The confrontation left at least nine soldiers dead, TWIF NEWS has gathered.
The strategy used by the alleged separatists in the operation has left many a Cameroonian military commander surprised.
According to CNA, the Gendarmerie post wish was attacked is located on the banks of river Noun, which borders Babessi a locality in the restive Anglophone Northwest Region.
The attackers about one hundred in number floated in with turned-off engine boats to prevent the gendarmes from hearing them.
The forces guarding the post were eliminated, drowning some attention, but it was already late.
Given that the gendarme post has just a single entry point, those on duty tried escaping after noticing an unusual environment but were already ambushed by the trigger-happy gun men.
Sources say at least 9 elements of the gendarmerie were neutralized while 3 others managed to flee with severe injuries.
The fighters went into the building and collected all ammunition, and destroyed the post.
A rocket launcher was reportedly used by the attackers to damage cars belonging to the gendarmerie station.
Before a backup contingent if state forces could arrive the scene, the suspected Ambazonian fighters had taken off.
Reacting to the attack, the West regional governor Fonka Agustin called for more vigilance.
He indicted separatist fighters for the act an promised to step up security in the locality.
