The City Mayor of Bamenda City council has called on the entire population of the region to join the council to collectively clean up the city.
Mayor Achobong Tambeng Paul was speaking Thursday May 5, 2022 after taking part in the Bamenda City Council 2021 administrative accounts memorandum.
According to Mayor Achobong, garbage has never been a friend to urban settlement.
“Garbage has never been friendly to anybody. Who so ever who thinks that garbage can be his or her friend is on the wrong path. Those who think that garbage should not be clean from the streets of Bamenda are actually injecting the population with slow poison,” Mayor Achobong Paul said
Regretting how some individuals in the city of Bamenda have teamed up to spoil the collection and disposition of garbage in the city, Mayor Achobong called on everybody to play their own part to clean up the city.
For close to a month, HYSACAM has halted the collection of waste in the city of Bamenda, after their worker was shot and one of their truck set ablazed by gunmen.
These two attacks on the company have forced them to abandoned the city fluant with garbage for about a month, as local councils are unable to assist without military intervention.
