The Faculty of Arts cultural week celebration for the 2021/2022 academic year in the university of Bamenda, UBa has come to an end.
During the solemn celebration, which is set aside for students to relax, showcase their talents and freshen-up their minds in preparation for exams, the department of Communication and Development Studies, English and Literature, Performing and Visual Arts, Geography and Planning and others took part in this year’s activities.
The department of Geography and Planning emerged winner of this year’s competition in football boys category, after beating the department of Communication and Development Studies 2-0 Tuesday June 14, 2022 in the finals.
Speaking after the ceremony, the Faculty of Arts Student’s Association president, Mbah Julius congratulated the students for giving him maximum support during the competition. He added that he is excited of such talents in the faculty of Arts.
“Thank you all for supporting us in this competition. The department of Geography and Planning has proven to us that they have a good team and we can boost of having good players in our faculty who can participate in the university games,” Mbah Julius said
He added that with a mixture of players from other departments, there’s no doubt that no other faculty in the entire university can defeat his.
The match which took place at the Bamenda university field did not end well with the Communication students as their hope of winning the trophy for the first time was shattered by two goals, which they conceded during the second segment of play.
Other activities that took place during the cultural week were, football girls and handball boys.
At the closing ceremony, Best writer from the department of English and best communication student at the school radio were awarded, with Amabo Chris, a level 500 student backing home award.
The department of Geography and Planning is noted for their outstanding performances when it comes to the cultural week and football boys in particular. No other department has lifted the trophy more than them, though they failed in 2021, they came back in full spirit this year.
The department of History who won the trophy last year were earlier ousted this year.
Meanwhile the department of Communication and Development Studies are yet to lift the trophy, after going functional since 2016. This is however their first year of reaching the finals, with great hopes and spirit of coming back more stronger next year.
