Some youth who served as stewards and guards at the Japoma stadium during AFCON 2021 in Cameroon have taken to the street, to demand for their unpaid wages.
The protesters, about 500 in number carried out the demonstration in front of Littoral Governor’s office recently.
The disgruntled workers who carried placards demanding for their unpaid wages after serving in the Africa Nations Cup were met with stiff resistance from security forces.
They said their wages have not been paid ever since the competition rounded off on February 06.
They angry youth wanted to know why their AFCON 2021 package has not been given to them till date.
Cameroon News Agency reported that the protesters have been dispersed with canisters and teargas by forces of law and order in littoral region.
One of the protesters disclosed that during the AFCON, they worked so hard from 6:00am to 1:00am the next day with a little bread to sustain them.
Some added that they were given just 4,000frs for their transportation during the period. With all the hardship, they say they have not received their agreed remunerations.
The protesters said the only answer they got from FECAFOOT was that their money was disbursed before the AFCON 2021 finals.
It remains unclear in whose pockets the funds allegedly given by the FECAFOOT officials ended.
