Congolese have hailed Senator Matata Ponyo as a true representative of the people after he rejected a 40 million Francs-worth car distributed recently to all members of the Upper House of Assembly in the country.
The law lawmaker interpreted the move by the Congolese government as misplaced priorities, given that the country is begging for much intervention in many sectors.
The man openly declared his dissatisfaction with the government buying 609 cars which cost 24 billion Francs to share with Members of Parliament and the Senate. He petitioned the president of the senate discouraging such moves.
As reported by 237infomill, he categorically refused the gift and cited that such an act is a glaring example of bad governance.
As if that was not enough Senator Matata Ponyo listed what 40 million dollars could do to Congo.
According to him, the huge sum of money would help to:
- Build 3 to 4 Universities in the country.
- Build more than 400 primary schools.
- Build 4 hospitals across the nation.
- Buy 2 Airbus airplanes with less than 10 years of use.
- Buy 400 buses that could be used for transportation in the country.
Hon. Matata has been exalted for standing for the greater good of the country rather than focusing on the community he represents.
However, reports say the firebrand Senator is facing embezzlement and mismanagement charges to the tune of 205 million dollars accumulated from when he was Minister of Finance to when the time he occupied the Prime Ministry of the country.
