President of Cameroon’s National Assembly says he has never failed Cameroonians ever since he occupied the office in 1992.
Honorable Cavaye Djibril was speaking shortly after having been reelected for the 30th time as Speaker of the Lower House of Assembly, Friday March 18, 2022.
Born in 1940, Cavayé Yéguié Djibril became prominent in his early fifties as he was voted President of the National Assembly in 1992; a position the octogenarian has occupied for 30 years now.
The CPDM parliamentarian took to the rostrum to express his thankfulness to President Paul Biya as he slept 148 out of 161 votes.
“I want to express my gratitude to the Head of State, national president of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, my party for the renewed confidence. I have always said and I say again, I have never failed Cameroonians,” he told MPs.
Meantime, Cavaye’s rival, Honorable Jean Mitchel Nintcheu of the Social Democratic Front secured just a single vote as 12 lawmakers slotted empty envelopes into the ballot box.
The Speaker’s landslide victory was thanks to CPDM’s overwhelming majority in the parliament.
