At least 8 persons have died in a stampede at the entrance to Olembé stadium shortly before the knockout game between Cameroon and the Comoros Island.
The Cameroon versus Comoros encounter which ended up taking the Lions to the quarter-finals claimed the lives of 8 persons and left several others severely injured before the start of the match.
A rapid influx of people into the stadium is the cause of the misfortune.
Before the end of Monday January 24 when the incident occurred, just 5 persons were confirmed death.
Breaking Tuesday January 25, the Government of Cameroon confirmed in a communiqué that 8 deaths have now been recorded, with 31 minor injuries and 7 critical cases.
Amongst those dead is Barrister Ebeneck Bernard who hails from the Northwest and studied in G.B.H.S Down Town before furthering in Law.
At the time of this report, FECAFOOT and CAF are yet to officially comment about the unfortunate incident in one of the stadia hosting the Africa Cup of Nations.
